- Village Creek State Park
Village Creek State Park sits on almost 7,000 acres of forests and streams, creating a unique environment in Arkansas. Visitors can hike or view the forested trails from atop a horse - the park even has an equestrian campground, along with an Andy Dye-designed 27-hole championship golf course. And the views of foliage during the fall are just as spectacular as you might imagine.
One of the park trails includes a segment of the Trail of Tears, and is a good way to get out and explore with kids while also helping them learn about the history of the country. Finally, spend part of your time along one of the two lakes, visit the small museum, and pop in to the visitor center where volunteers can help you plan your trip. The weather ranges from just below freezing in the coldest month to the low 90’s in the summer.
Spring 62 F - 81 F

Village Creek State Park
Inside Village Creek State Park
As you might expect in a park along the lake, there is plenty of boating for visitors. You can rent fishing boats with motors, kayaks, canoes, pedal boats, row boats, or water bikes. There is fishing available as well, in fact, some of the biggest fish in the state have been caught at Village Creek State Park.
Some other cool experiences and activities at the park include:
Golfing: At the top of Crowley’s Ridge, a unique landform in northeast Arkansas, the park is home to an Andy Dye signature course. There are 27 holes, and the rolling terrain creates changes in elevation and a beautiful forest backdrop for the championship course.
Hiking: Take the Arboretum Trail, with signs identifying almost all the trees along the path, or the Austell Trail that wanders through hogback ridges and woods to Lake Austell.
Swimming: There is a swim beach at the park as well. Spend the day splashing with the kids!
