Things To Do Near Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site
Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site includes the George Washington Carver Museum and “The Oaks,” which was the home of Booker T. Washington. The George Washington Carver Museum educates visitors with exhibits and interpretative programs and also has books for sale. Ranger-led tours of “The Oaks” provide insight into the background of the home and of Washington himself.

Bartram Trail
The Bartram Trail allows you to take a break from the road and take a walk through the Tuskegee National Forest. You will pass a wide variety of wildlife habitats, flowering trees, and wildflowers. While hiking this trail, you may see turkey, deer, and other wildlife in their natural habitat.

Pleasant Hill Mountain Bike Trail
The Pleasant Hill Mountain Bike Trail is the only trail that offers hiking and biking in the Tuskegee National Forest. It does feature a bit of a climb, however, with an elevation gain of 750 feet in total. You also can see the Hickory Grove Cemetery and the Hickory Grove Church along this trail.

The Tuskegee National Forest
The 11,000-acre Tuskegee National Forest is part of the U.S. National Forest System. It offers opportunities for camping, hiking, and biking, and you can visit the Tsinia Wildlife Viewing Area. Other locations of interest include the Uchee Shooting Range, a fire tower, mountain biking trails, and hunting and fishing areas.

Chewacla State Park
Chewacla State Park is a public recreational area that consists of 696 scenic acres. It includes a 26-acre lake, two creeks, a modern campground, a playground, a swimming area, hiking, and mountain biking trails, cabins, grills, and shelters. This park is also home to natural and manmade waterfalls. The waterfalls serve as a good location for photos.

Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site
The Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site has artifacts and exhibits from World War II and showcases the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, who were the first black military aviators in the U.S. Army. When you arrive, you will see Moton Field, the original airfield used by the Tuskegee Airmen. This historic site also includes two hangars and a museum.

Tuskegee Human and Civil Rights Multicultural Center
Tuskegee Human and Civil Rights Multicultural Center is a non-profit organization that serves as a permanent memorial to the victims and survivors of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. This museum displays exhibits that explain the history of Tuskegee and Macon County. The Shared Heritage Gallery takes you on a visual journey of the shared areas of Native American, European American, and African American cultures. While the museum is small, it gives a detailed account of the rich history of Macon County, Alabama.

Tiger Pause Café
