The Lyman Lake State Park is a recreational lake that was created as a reservoir by damming the Little Colorado River in Arizona in 1912. Lyman Lake became part of Arizona's first state park in 1961 and has become a popular destination for fishing, boating, and other water activities. The 1,500-acre lake is still a reservoir and has fluctuating water levels with a full-pond average depth of 22 feet and the deepest level of 57 feet. It is the only lake in Arizona that has no boat size restrictions for water skiing and other boating activities, and fishing for largemouth bass, channel catfish, carp, walleyes, and sunfish is a favorite pastime. Lyman Lake State Park has 23 tent camping sites; 38 RV sites with water, sewer, and electric hookups; four cabins; and four yurts, and visitors can view archaeological sites, prehistoric areas, petroglyphs and rock art from the extensive hiking trails. The lake is fed by snowmelt, so be prepared for a brisk swim if you take a dip.

Springerville RV Park
Springerville RV Park is a newly opened facility near the White Mountains and just south of Lyman Lake State Park. It is still undergoing additional construction but has all the basics, such as 30 pull-through full-hookup sites with 30 and 50 amps. The park is pet-friendly, and horse trailers are welcome.

Apache Trout Campground
Apache Trout Campground is one of five campgrounds located in the Big Lake Recreation Area in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest and is located south of Lyman Lake State Park. The park is in the White Mountains of Arizona; sits at an elevation of 9,100 feet; and features a variety of trees, such as Douglas fir, ponderosa pine, spruce and aspen. Visitors can also enjoy hiking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing and bird-watching.

Casa Malpais RV Park
Casa Malpais RV Park is conveniently located in the White Mountains of Arizona and is close to the Casa Malpais Archaeological Park, the White Mountain Dinosaur Exploration Center and the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. You will enjoy the recreation hall for the ping-pong and pool tables, and you will appreciate the cleanliness and quiet.

Inside Lyman Lake State Park
The park’s fishing and boating are the prime attractions, but you will also want to try out the many hiking trails inside the park. The Peninsula Petroglyph Trail is a quarter-mile trail that features several petroglyphs with interpretive signs. The Buffalo Trail is 2 miles and has steep, vertical inclines and steps, and the Pointe Trail is 1 mile and overlooks the entire park. There is plenty of wildlife to see while at the park, such as a variety of waterfowl and shorebirds. You can also see small mammals like squirrels, raccoons, rabbits, jackrabbits, skunks, coyotes and bobcats, and you may even catch a glimpse of larger animals like mule deer, elk and pronghorn antelope.
How to Get to
Lyman Lake State Park
Lyman Lake State Park is located on Highway 180/191 between St. Johns and Springerville in Eastern Arizona. If traveling from Interstate 40, you can exit on either Highway 180 coming from the west or Highway 191 if driving from the east.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lyman Lake State Park
Lyman Lake State Park has a dry climate and is known for its hot summers. However, the winters can also get very chilly. Temperatures can reach as high as 90 degrees during summer and as low as 19 during winter.
Because the park's weather can fluctuate quite a bit, the summer is the only season when warm, comfortable temperatures are a safe bet. Between June and September, it should be pleasant for hiking, fishing, and boating.
Pets are welcome in the park as long as they're cleaned up after and kept on leashes. They're allowed in the day-use area and much of the campground, but certain campsites do not permit pets.
Lyman Lake State Park Campground boasts 56 total campsites, 38 of which are designated RV spots. All of the RV sites are equipped with full hookups, and there is no maximum limit on RV length.
The park offers superb opportunities for wildlife viewing and bird-watching. During your visit, you might spot jackrabbits, mule deer, elk, pronghorn antelope, coyotes, skunks, bobcats, great blue herons, egrets, waterfowl, and other creatures.
