Things To Do Near Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park

Marsh Edge Trail
Hike along the edge of a marsh at Marsh Edge Trail. This trail is near the confluence of the Little Blackwater River and Blackwater River. This paved trail is only open for a few months in the fall so that the refuge can protect nesting birds. It can be a great place to go bird-watching.

Woods Trail
You are likely to see endangered Delmarva Peninsula fox squirrels as you hike along this trail as the largest remaining colony of these squirrels lives nearby. This location is also a great place to hike to see and hear frogs and toads. It is a fabulous place to go bird-watching as well.

Bucktown General Store
Harriett Tubman committed her first act of defiance at the Bucktown General Store. She had gone with another slave to secure groceries when ordered to help catch a runaway slave by the slave's owner. Tubman refused, and the overseer hit her with a 2-pound weight. The resulting injury left her with epilepsy for the rest of her life.
