While known for hosting Fourth of July fireworks, Colt State Park offers recreational activities for visitors all throughout the year. This 464-acre park’s western shore is located on Narragansett Bay near Bristol, Rhode Island. When you visit, you can ride along the four miles of bike trails through the fruit orchards before stopping to have a picnic lunch at the shaded tables. The manicured lawns make a great spot to play your favorite outdoor games or spread out a blanket and read your favorite book. Colt State Park is located about 17 miles southeast of Providence, 15 miles north of Newport, and less than 5 miles from the Massachusetts state line.

Inside Colt State Park
You may want to start your visit to Colt State Park with a visit to the on-site history museum. This park was originally privately owned by Samuel Colt, who ordered the construction of many of the walls that are still visible today. If you're planning a special event, consider reserving the open-air Chapel by the Sea. You can also play on 10 sports fields, have a picnic, ride bikes, and climb the observation tower when visiting this state park. The park is home to the oldest public fireworks show in America.

Colt State Park
It is easy to get to Colt State Park from Bristol. However, you must go northeast before coming back south to reach this park. Start by getting on Hope Street in Bristol. Turn left on Asylum Road. This road will become Colt Drive and take you to the park.
