The Blue Spring State Park is known as Florida’s premier manatee refuge, and more than 300 of the animals flock to the area during the winter months. It’s also the habitat for at least 15 threatened or endangered plants and animals. You may see herons and other wading birds, swimming turtles, and possibly an alligator sunning himself. Stroll along the 0.4-mile boardwalk to see these animals and to learn more about them.
The spring waters at the park are 72F year-round, and perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and a host of other activities. The weather out of the water is warm year-round as well, ranging from the 70’s to the 90’s each day, and dropping into the 40’s on the very coldest days of the year.

What to Do at
Blue Spring State Park
Inside Blue Spring State Park
Blue Spring is along the St. Johns River, and there’s plenty to do to explore the park! Take a boat tour, go on a hike, or visit the Thursby House, which hosted steamboat passengers as they headed up and down the river. Other activities in the park include:
Birding: Look for Florida scrub-jays, which live in the park, and listen for their calls (just remember, it’s against the law to feed them!).
Boat Tours: Take a two-hour narrated cruise to learn about the nature and ecology of the St. Johns River.
Paddling: Canoe Blue Spring Run and the St. Johns River. You can rent canoes and kayaks along the river.
Hiking: Take a self-guided tour along the accessible boardwalk to Blue Spring. There are also longer trails that take you through various plant communities, from desert scrub to the St. Johns River.
Scuba Diving: Certified divers are allowed to scuba inside the park. Check the rules to be sure you have all the necessary equipment and permits.
Swimming: You can swim in the crystal clear waters of the spring, but be aware swimming with the manatees is not permitted.
Tubing: You can take a relaxing float about an eighth of a mile from an upper entry to the main dock.
How to Get to
Blue Spring State Park
Take I-4 to Orange City. Turn west on French Ave. and follow the road until the pavement ends. Turn left into the park entrance.

The best time of year to visit Blue Spring State Park is from late fall to early spring. Days are still warm, but nights get cool. Summers are hot and humid, with the rainiest months being June through September.
The climate of the park is subtropical. It has a mean annual temperature of 68.9 degrees Fahrenheit and an average annual rainfall of 50 inches. The temperature ranges from an average high of 91 degrees Fahrenheit in the height of summer to an average low of 44 degrees in January.
Blue Spring State Park offers a variety of RV campsites. The park also offers group campsites that accommodate up to 100 people each night. There are also private RV campgrounds available on the outskirts of the park.
Pets are allowed in the park but must be restrained by a leash no more than 6 feet long and under the owner's control at all times. They can be taken on hiking trails and along roads open to motor vehicles.
Blue Spring State Park has a wide variety of wildlife, including coyotes, deer, raccoons, skunks and even bears. You can also see birds such as hawks and eagles during your visit to this park.
